Is It OK To Drive On Empty

You know the feeling – you had a long day at the office, traffic is worse than usual, and all you want is to get home for some “me time.” And wouldn’t you know it? Your gas light comes on. Instead of spending the 15 minutes you should to stop and fill up, you decide to go the rest of the way home and worry about it in the morning. But is it really OK to run your European vehicle with no gas? Probably not, and here are a few reasons why.

You Could Run Out Of Gas

This is pretty obvious; if you drive your car on empty for long enough, eventually, it will run out of gas. At that point, you’d better pray your cell phone is charged; otherwise, you’ve got a long walk to the gas station ahead. Not to mention the embarrassment of having to explain to friends and family that you’re late because you couldn’t be bothered to fill up, even when your car urged you to do so. Just stop for gas when you need it and avoid this situation.

It’s Not Great For Your Car Either

Your car’s fuel pump is designed to be submerged in gasoline, which helps it pump fuel (hence the name) to your engine. When you drive on empty, it can cause this crucial component to misfire, malfunction, and over time, even break, and any technician will tell you how costly this can be to remedy. Again, just stop for gas when you need it.
